“Is mayonnaise an instrument?”
Somehow that SpongeBob line hooked Reb, and she responded to Nick’s prompt. He sent back the actual clip, and the rest is history (thanks, SpongeBob).
Nick had just moved from New Jersey to NYC when he and Reb met in September 2021. Nick picked Copinette, a halfway point between his Upper East Side place and her Midtown apartment.
They ordered spicy margaritas and tuna tartare (nothing says romance like heartburn and awkwardly balancing raw fish on a cracker). They barely ate, mostly because Reb launched into a 2.5-hour monologue while it rained around them. Nick nodded, sipped his first ever spicy margarita, and miraculously wasn’t scared away.
Three months into dating, in the dark, sweaty basement of a Lower East Side bar One and One, Nick officially asked Reb to be his girlfriend. The night started on a high until Reb’s phone and wallet were stolen. Cue chaos, tears, and Nick’s very first text to her dad, David (not exactly the meet-the-parents moment he imagined). Her phone resurfaced a couple weeks later in China. She hasn’t set foot in that bar since.
A few weeks later, they planned to ring in their first New Year’s together, but Reb caught covid days before. Instead, they spent the week FaceTiming, watching movies “together,” and Nick sent Reb flowers. Romance can survive even in quarantine!
In March 2022 they took their first big trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. During this trip they discovered that Nick is a vacationer and Reb is an adventurer. Their days were jam packed - snorkeling with sea turtles, night kayaking, sliding down waterfalls in the El Yunque rainforest, just to name a few activities. Nick was understandably wiped, and Reb was thriving. She was worried - a filled itinerary was always how she travelled, especially in a new place. Would they vacation well together in the future?
Well, since that trip they’ve been all over the country and world together - Colorado, California, Maine, Florida, North Carolina, Copenhagen, Barcelona, London, Paris, Jamaica…just to name a few. Safe to say they figured it out.
Reb and Nick moved in together in February 2023, just around the corner from his first Upper East Side apartment. Learning how to navigate being roommates, partners, and a team proved to have its challenges (mostly for Nick, now living with someone who isn’t afraid to drop crumbs on the floor) but they’ve come to understand each other’s quirks.
Nick popped the question on June 21, 2025 in Central Park. Reb thought she was going to dinner with her college roommate and former New York partner-in-crime, Kaitlin, and other Elon friends. Kaitlin insisted they walk across Central Park to dinner in the 90 degree heat. Begrudgingly, Reb agreed, and they walked to where Nick was standing in the park.
After proposing and taking photos, they returned to their apartment to have a celebratory drink and get ready for what Reb thought was a nice dinner, just the two of them. Nick surprised Reb with eight white dresses for her to choose between! It ended up being a perfect surprise engagement party with friends and family from near and far. It was truly the best night!
